The EVAs Media Awards

Rewarding Excellence in the Reporting of Violence Against Women

The EVAs Media Awards (Eliminating Violence Against Women Media Awards) honour journalists for excellence in the reporting of violence against women, in print, television, radio and online media; and celebrate media contributions to the prevention of violence against women. Entries are judged on journalistic merit; with emphasis on the promotion of community awareness and understanding of violence against women, and in inspiring community interest and action.

Does your story meet the EVAs Criteria?

Winners of the EVAs Media Awards are professionals dedicated to fair, accurate and informed reporting. From news stories and opinion pieces to documentary series, the awards recognise the influence the media has on building community interest, awareness and action to eliminate violence against women.

There are a lot of social misconceptions and stereotypes around violence against women. Recent research shows that attitudes are one of the biggest contributing factors to violent behaviours towards women. Media reporting and commentary can contribute greatly to the prevention of violence against women; it can help the community become informed and take action where violence is threatened or has occurred.

The EVAs reward media reporting and commentary that contributes to the prevention of violence against women. The awards also act to showcase excellent reporting and to support and encourage future reporting.
